Solana Fees Reach Record Highs Amid Rising Network Activity

Solana’s fee generation in SOL hit a seven-day average of nearly 9,200 SOL on August 27. This marks an increase of more than 80% compared to three months earlier. Non-vote transactions also set a new record at 191 million on a seven-day basis, more than double the 88 million recorded a year ago. Jito validator tips averaged 2,073 SOL per day last week, rising 26% week over week.
Double Disinflation Proposal Passes with Strong Validator Support
The SGP-0002 Double Disinflation proposal passed on Friday with 67.001% support. It needed a 66.67% threshold to succeed. Turnout reached 60.7% across 1,326 validators, the highest governance participation in Solana’s history. The measure doubles the annual disinflation rate from 15% to 30%.
Impact on SOL Supply and Staking Rewards
The change will remove roughly 18.9 million SOL from projected issuance over the next six years. Less new supply will enter the market each year. Staking rewards are expected to fall from about 5.25% to 2.25% by year three. This reduces income for validators who rely mainly on inflation rather than transaction fees.
Effects on Validators and Everyday Users
Smaller independent validators may face profitability challenges within three years. Larger operators are better positioned to adapt. Average users are unlikely to notice any change in network speed or transaction fees following the proposal’s approval.
