Two brothers from Texas have pleaded guilty to a violent home invasion and an $8 million cryptocurrency heist. The U.S. Department of Justice confirmed that the siblings held a Minnesota family at gunpoint for over eight hours to steal their digital assets.
Isiah Angelo Garcia (25) and Raymond Christian Garcia (24) both pleaded guilty to interference with commerce by robbery. They appeared before U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery in Minneapolis and now face up to 20 years in federal prison.
According to court documents, the brothers traveled from Waller, Texas, to Grant, Minnesota, on September 19, 2025. Once inside the victim’s home, they tied up the family members with zip-ties and used firearms to demand access to their cryptocurrency accounts.
During the eight-hour ordeal, Isiah Garcia forced one of the victims to drive to a family cabin in northern Minnesota. There, the victim was made to retrieve physical crypto storage devices. In total, the brothers forced the transfer of more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.
The terrifying incident ended when the victim’s son managed to call 911. The Garcia brothers fled the scene before police arrived.
However, investigators successfully traced evidence left behind at the home to identify the siblings. Law enforcement officials later tracked down and arrested both men near Houston, Texas. As part of their plea deal, both defendants have agreed to pay more than $8 million in financial restitution.
This case highlights a dangerous and growing global pattern of armed robberies targeting cryptocurrency holders. Security experts often refer to these physical, targeted thefts as “wrench attacks.”
