Bitcoin Policy Institute Joins US State Department Freedom Tech Program

Bitcoin Policy Institute joins the US State Department Freedom Tech Excellence Program alongside leading technology partners.

The U.S. Department of State has launched the Freedom Tech Excellence Program (FTEP), a new initiative that brings together government agencies and private technology organizations. The founding partners include the Bitcoin Policy Institute (BPI), Palantir Technologies, Anduril Industries, and the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation. The program is designed to strengthen U.S. diplomatic efforts by using private sector expertise in emerging technologies.

Bitcoin Policy Institute to Support Digital Freedom Initiatives

Under the program, experts from the Bitcoin Policy Institute will work with the State Department on projects related to online freedom of expression, privacy enhancing technologies, countering digital surveillance, and responsible AI governance. BPI said the partnership allows its specialists to contribute to important policy discussions while gaining direct insight into U.S. foreign policy and international diplomacy.

Temporary Talent Exchange Between Government and Industry

The Freedom Tech Excellence Program operates as a talent exchange initiative rather than a hiring program. Participants will remain employed by their current organizations while serving temporary assignments at the State Department. Officials said the initiative helps the department access specialized technical knowledge without creating permanent government positions, encouraging greater collaboration between public and private sectors.

Program Launch Aligns With US Crypto Strategy

The announcement comes as President Donald Trump continues to promote digital assets and emerging technologies during his second term. His administration has introduced several crypto friendly policies, including the creation of a national Bitcoin reserve and a crypto asset stockpile using digital assets seized through criminal investigations. The new partnership further highlights the government’s growing focus on digital innovation and technology policy.

What This Means for Bitcoin Policy

Founded in 2021, the Bitcoin Policy Institute is a nonprofit think tank focused on Bitcoin research, education, and policymaker engagement. Its inclusion in the Freedom Tech Excellence Program signals a stronger connection between Bitcoin policy experts and the U.S. government. As digital assets, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence continue to shape global policy, the initiative could play an important role in future technology and regulatory discussions.
