Japan’s leading logistics company, AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings, is turning to the JPYC yen-pegged stablecoin to pay truck drivers and business partners. This move aims to speed up payments and attract more workers in a tight labor market.
According to Nikkei Asia, AZ-COM Maruwa will use JPYC to settle fees and salaries for around 2,300 contractors and individual truck drivers. This marks the first large-scale corporate adoption of JPYC, Japan’s first officially registered yen stablecoin.
The company is also in talks for a partnership with JPYC Inc. that includes a potential 1 billion yen ($6.16 million) investment.
By offering instant and reliable stablecoin payments, AZ-COM Maruwa hopes to make itself more attractive to business partners. The logistics sector faces serious challenges due to an aging workforce and new rules limiting driver overtime.
Faster payouts are expected to help the firm secure more drivers and contractors in a competitive market.
Launched in October last year, JPYC has quickly grown. Its on-chain circulation recently crossed 2 billion yen ($12.3 million).
Recent developments include:
Traditional financial giants are also entering the space. SBI Group launched JPYSC in June, while MUFG, SMBC, and Mizuho plan to roll out their joint yen stablecoin in fiscal year 2026.
This adoption by AZ-COM Maruwa highlights how stablecoins are moving from crypto circles into real-world business use in Japan, especially for solving operational pain points like slow payments and labor shortages.
