Rene Schwarze, also known as Jensen Robles and Muhammed Reni (or Rainey), has been arrested in Gambia. The German national was detained by Gambia Police Force on suspicion of possessing counterfeit currency.
Rene Schwarze operated under multiple aliases, including Jensen Robles, Muhammed Reni, and Muhammed Rainey. He gained attention as the fake CEO “Jensen Robles” of Vortic United, a crypto MLM Ponzi scheme that collapsed in August 2023. After the scheme failed, Schwarze disappeared along with investor funds.
Gambia Police arrested “Muhammed Reni” (Rene Schwarze) earlier this week. He was held for two days at the Serious Crime Unit (SIU) before being released on bail.
According to reports, police questioned him about the source of vehicles and motorbikes used in the National Democratic Party (NDP) campaign. No formal charges have been filed yet, and no counterfeit items were reportedly found during the search of his residence.

Schwarze has close ties to Kebba Madi Bojang, leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP). After the Vortic United collapse, he reappeared in Gambia as Muhammed Reni and became associated with Bojang and the NDP.
A statement from Zoom Africa TV welcomed his release and mentioned he was with “investors” when police arrived. This has raised concerns that he may still be involved in investment-related activities.
This is not Schwarze’s first issue in Gambia. Between 2017 and 2021, he lived there on an illegally issued diplomatic passport. He was involved in a scandal where diplomatic passports were sold to several individuals, many of them linked to MLM crypto schemes.
In 2021, Schwarze married a Gambian national, converted to Islam, and changed his name to Muhammed. Gambian tax authorities had previously questioned his business activities, but he claimed he had no active operations in the country.
With presidential elections scheduled for December 5, 2026, Schwarze’s involvement in politics has drawn attention. Questions remain about whether funds from past investment schemes are being used to influence Gambian politics through the NDP.
The Serious Crime Unit is reportedly looking into the matter. The NDP has not yet issued a detailed statement distancing itself from Reni/Schwarze.
