A Bitcoin whale address has moved 500 BTC, worth approximately $40.6 million, after remaining dormant for 12 years.
According to onchain data from Arkham, the transfer occurred on Sunday from address 1KAA8…d882j to a new address bc1qm…hjrxy at around 3:16 p.m. ET.
The 500 BTC was originally received on November 27, 2013, when it was valued at roughly $457,000.
Over the past 12 years, its value has increased 89 times, highlighting Bitcoin’s strong long-term performance.
The reason for the transfer is not confirmed, but large dormant whale movements often signal upcoming sales or profit-taking.
Such transactions typically allow holders to move coins to new wallets before cashing out or reallocating funds.
Bitcoin is currently trading around $81,700, up 1.21% in the last 24 hours. The cryptocurrency has rebounded strongly in recent weeks from around $66,000 last month, supported by institutional inflows and positive market sentiment.
