Leap Wallet Announces Shutdown

Interlinked chains symbolizing Leap Wallet shutdown and the need to secure crypto assets after service closure

Leap Wallet, a non-custodial crypto wallet originally built for the Terra-Luna ecosystem, will shut down its services on May 28, 2026, per The Block. The team announced the decision on X, stating they began in 2022 to “redefine wallet experiences in crypto” and later expanded to support over 100 chains in the Cosmos ecosystem, per. Core components shutting down include the browser extension, iOS and Android mobile apps, Leap WebApp, Swapfast exchange platform, and Leap Cosmos Hub Validator, per.

Origins and Pivot After Terra Collapse

Leap launched in late 2021 with a $50,000 grant from Terraform Labs, the now-defunct R&D firm behind TerraUSD (UST), per. It raised a $3.2 million seed round co-led by CoinFund and Pantera Capital in early 2022, per. Initially positioned as the go-to wallet for Terra (including staking LUNA, trading on Terraswap, and connecting to Anchor and Mirror), Leap pivoted after the Terra collapse in 2022 — widely cited as a catalyst for the broader crypto bear market — to become a multi-chain wallet for the Cosmos ecosystem, which Terra was built on using the Cosmos SDK, per.

Impact on Users and Next Steps

Users holding assets in Leap can still access their funds using their recovery phrase or private key by importing them into another compatible wallet, per. There is no need to withdraw or send assets to a new address — the same address will be restored, per. For users who delegated ATOM to Leap’s Cosmos Hub validator, the team strongly recommends re-delegating to another validator as soon as possible to avoid missing staking rewards during the unbonding period, per.

The team emphasized that the decision was not made lightly and expressed continued support for the interchain ecosystem and its builders, per.
