DOJ moves for forfeiture of Jason Cardiff’s $500,000 bond

Jason Cardiff was released on bail upon his arrest in 2023, backed by a $500,000 appearance bond.

The DOJ has now moved for forfeiture of Cardiff’s bail after Cardiff failed to return to the US as directed last month. As stated by the DOJ in its bond forfeiture petition dated February 3rd;

The defendant was ordered by the court to return to the United States by January 19, 2025, at the latest. The defendant hasn’t come back as of yet.

The defendant broke the terms of his pretrial release by failing to abide by the bail requirements.

The defendant fled from Pretrial Services’ monitoring, skipped a court appearance as directed, and is currently residing at a place that Pretrial Services has not authorized.

Consequently, the United States asks the entry of a default judgment against the defendant and the sureties and moves for an order forfeiting the defendant’s bail.

If the forfeiture is approved, Lilia Murphy would give up a $470,000 property in Texas, and Brian Kennedy will lose the remaining $30,000.
The DOJ’s request will be heard by the court on March 3, 2025.
